Hi All, I'm new here, 1st post. I have a 2004 F250, 6.0L Diesel. I am told (ford dealer) that I have a Rear Engine Oil Seal leak. Two weeks ago it was diagnosed as a upper turbo tube leak or something like that, I will know more this afternoon.
Here is my ?. Since they are replacing my Rear Seal, should I have them look at the Front Seal? If one starts to leak, is it inevitable that the front will go too shortly thereafter?
I have worked on engines before and know my way around, but this Diesel is more than I can work on my own.
My dad just bought an 03 6.0 f550 with a manual, and he says the rear main is leaking on it. My question is what else should we do when we get in there? It has 220,000 miles on it. With no mods. We are planning on a coolant filter, possibly a bulletproof egr cooler and oil cooler. I know there is an updated stc fitting (I think thats what it was), should we look at that?
Thanks in advance.
An 03 doesn't have an STC fitting and chances are you don't have a rear main seal leaking just because you see a drip on the bell housing. It's probably from much higher up on the motor and MUCH easier to fix.
Dealer told me the same thing, I told him to check the HPOP first, the tech didn't and pulled the trans and replaced the rear main seal. Started it up and found the same oil leak was still there....ended up replacing the HPOP and the leak went away. I only paid for the original quote which was for the rear seal.
