How to remove Excursion hitch?
#16
Welcome to the EX forum!
If you are thinking about welding up next to the fuel tank, it's probably a good idea to drop the tank out of the way first, and you would need that extra room to make the welds too I think. When I needed to replace my 6.8's fuel pump I took advantage of having the tank down and out of the way to use a propane torch to soften the blue locktite on the hitch bolts and then used a 10" pipe wrench to spin the round headed shear bolts out, was fairly easy with the heat, something else not wise to do with the tank in place.
With the shear bolts out and on the work table I welded a nut to each one to make future installation and removal easier. you can see where the pipe wrench jaws were grabbing the round heads.
