Excursion towing a 5th wheel

I was in the Fort Worth stockyards the other day when I saw somone towing a huge horse trailer fifth wheel with this contraption attached to their excursion.

The Best Way To Tow Your Trailer | Trailer Hitch| Gooseneck Hitch | 5th Wheel RV Hitch | Safety Hitch | Automated Safety Hitch | Smart Hitch | Towing

He went on and on about how awesome it worked for towing, braking, safety, comfort, etc etc.

Thought you might like to know about it.

Over the years there have a been a number of different inventions to tow a 5th wheel or gooseneck behind a truck. This one seems to take it a step further with the automatic hitching feature. And the fact that it doesn't look like it articulates where it hooks to the truck. Having an articulation point there can actually help in backing. That is one cool hitch, though! Thanks for posting it!

Here's another one...sans the winches and things but with the middle articulation point..

I've thought about how one might make something like that but never really even searched to see if someone had already done it. Looks like they have and looks like a great idea.

Kind of reminds me of the drop down tires on the back of a cement truck.

Any idea how much?

I would think that with the one in the youtube video with the articulation that it would be hard to back up as the axle would try to go one way and the trailer would go the other.

The one the OP showed really just lengthens the wheel base of the tow vehicle and isn't really like pulling 2 trailers.

Yikes! I just found the price. It ranges from $6,000 to almost $9,000!!!

Guess I'll just be sticking to bumper pull trailers for now.

I used to use one to move semi trailers around the yard when I was in the Army in Germany. It really does make it easier to back but as I think about it I was using an articulated steer (turns in the middle) , 10K forklift. It sure made it easier for that but probably not so much for a truck.

The cool thing about it is that the wheels lock straight over 25mph and steer at under 25mph so that it will pull the trailer to the outside of the turn. Also since it is a f450 front axle holding all the weight and braking the amount that you can tow shoots WAY up. I saw a 30,000lb number but not sure.

I thought this was another thread for the Hitch Buddy, but I see this set up seems a bit better.

Kinda looks like a small military trailer. I wonder if you could adapt one to work as a 5th wheel ? Either way - real nice setup if you had a goose trailer ...

This setup is for a GN or 5th wheel.

I mean the small trailer/hitch that is in back kinda reminded me of a military trailer -- has the same look with the large tires ... Looks like a 5th wheel trailer landed on a small military trailer and is going for a ride - lol

I saw one of these when I was out West last summer. I thought it was great also because I have a 40' fifth wheel, but when I saw the price I thought I had better keep the truck to pull it with. I like that setup better than the one I saw. It did not turn and basically was dragged on sharp turns.
