I watch his show, he has come out of Ontario to around my area in the last few years and was developing areas. Not sure how that has gone for him. Pretty sure most of the trades he brings in do his jobs at extremely discounted or even free of cost to them, just getting your company name associated with them would get you a lot more calls. I'm just glad they don't try and make it look like they can rip a house down and completely rebuild it in 1 week like that extreme home makeover show. One thing I don't like about Holmes is the music at the end of the show, trying to be overly emotional. My dad and I run a home reno company and some of our jobs have been featured in local magazines, one client called my dad the Mike Holmes of Airdrie. Lots of the stuff we did was like what happens on his show, kept finding more and more wrong with the place.
I watch the show also. I think they do great work.
I did some work on the Extreme Makeover show down in Violet. They actually renovated this particular home instead of a tear down. They worked round the clock and went over by two days if I remember correctly. Shortly after Katrina hit and the home was flooded. They called my former boss and flew him out to Arizona to help with the rock work on the home built for the woman who had returned from Iraq. He did not get paid, in fact none of us were paid, it was all volunteer.

When you go through it as fast as they do, there is no way the finishing is really up to par, and you can tell by the way they never keep the cameras on anything too long. Not trying to put anybodies work down, you just can't get quality from anybody when moving as fast as they do. The one that really caught my eye with that show was when they blew the house up with dynamite, would have take a couple days just to clean up the site.
This is something I just finished in my own home, it took me roughly a week just on installation. Plus a week in the shop for all the staining and lacquering before hand. I was also working on it evenings so not full days.
Thank you, my favorite thing about it is where the components go it is 23" deep, while the tv is about 8" back from the front of the pillar, so all the wiring is hidden behind the tv panel. And the components actually sit behind the tv, the tv is a 52" just to give an idea on the size of it.
