Oil pressure loss with icreasing rpm
Looked at an '87 today with a 6.9, 72000 miles. Nice truck, but one problem scared me off a little. She was a hard start, but it had been sitting and not started lately and it was cold. One dead battery and one 500CCA got her going and she sounded good. I didn't start it myself, but after a short while of warm up, I noticed the engine light was on or flickering and the oil pressure was in the bottom of the normal range. Revving a bit seemed to bring up the pressure and then seemed ok at idle. After a few more minutes, revving the engine slightly caused a loss in oil pressure and the engine light to come on steady again. Back at idle, everything seemed normal again. Made this happen 3 times. We couldn't drive it(no plates and unsafe tires-15 years old and cracked to beat hell), so we know nothing about how it acts driving. Any ideas? A search of the forum didn't match anything of the sort.

What was the oil level?
What was the condition of the oil, was it thinned out from fuel or water?
When looking at a truck you don't know the history, always check oil before it's started to check condition of oil, if any water is in the base, ect...
Only a mechanical pressure gauge to monitor the oil pressure will tell the truth. It could be a faulty sending unit tripping the o/p light.

Point to remember.... the odometers on that truck go up to 99999 then back to 00001 as many times as required.
As for the oil light the sensor is an on-off switch, could be a bad wire connection or sensor. There is also on record a problem with the oil pickup tube...however I have never seen a post re this problem in my time here.
What are they asking for the truck as is........ It could be a diamond in the rough!

On consignment at a used car dealer. Not much interest. I believe mileage. Tire tread looks like new, made in '95, but sidewalls cracked all to hell. Truck is straight and unabused, but for the paint ruined by sun. I believe first owner had a camper on it and 2nd used it for A 5TH wheel camper trailer hauler. Looking for 2200 minimum, but we thinking 1500 as is where is.
