here's a pic of my custom overdrive, has 1:1 and .51 OD. Works great with my 5.83 Rockwell axle. I'll have to take a new pic that that it's all finished and working in the truck.
Unfortunately I don't have much progress to report. In the last several weeks I did manage to dig my truck out of the garage and drive it out around the block a few times. Last weekend I was all pumped up to tear in my 9" and swap the 4:11 pumpkin out for my 2:78 Trak-Lok unit but I ended up having to help a buddy stuff and engine in his 70 Suburban.
During the week we've been hit with extreme cold (for our neck of the woods - the temp gauge in my 2005 F-150 said 12 below last Thursday morning) and I've spent the last several days repairing water lines in my house and several of my dad's places.
Today,I'm going to remove the speedometer and replace it with the NOS one I've had on the shelf for years.Tomorrow ,the bad one will be sent off for repairs. Also,I need to trace a bad connection, a circuit that is intermittently opening and causing me to loose my tach and auxiliary driving lights. Finally, going to lube the chassis, check the tranny any differential and make a dump run. It's going to be sunny and in the 70's here today.
So your overdrive unit is actually a tranfer case turned around?
exactly, I removed all the FWD gears to cut down on noise but other than that it's just an NP205 divorced tcase.
when in high range, it's 1:1 and when in "low range" it's a .51 OD.
That's pretty cool. I have the same rear axle as you. Its a Rockwell B140. I also had the 583 in it, but I changed it to a 514. I was able to pick it up through a friend. I just wonder if anyone has a parts book that would help find any other matching ring and pinions that might be put in that pig.
