My 2002 Mountaineer displays the door ajar message in the message center now for the past few weeks. I have reviewed some posts on this forum and have tried the WD40 soaking to no avail. Someone suggested a high end code reader will tell me which unit is acting up. My tester is not high end and won't tell. How can I tell which one is bad after taking the panels off, I'm thinking unplugging the unit will do? I'd like to take only one panel at a time off if I can get away with it. I took the back hatch panel off tonight and unplugged both units in it with no results. Any help would be appreciated as always. Great forum keep up the good work.
I'm not a fan of using WD-40 for electrical parts, but rather using an electrical parts cleaner.
Did you try the rear hatch window and liftgate switches?
I'd have to look at the wiring diagram to be sure, but I think the switches are normally open therefore you'd need to unplug and short each switch connector rather than just unplugging them.
I tried everything this weekend. I took all the door panels including the rear hatch off and shorted out each switch (6 total) checked all the fuses under the dash and under the hood and the message still displays. I give up.
I wish I knew for sure, it's very difficult to get to the switches to unplug them, it would be easier to cut the wires going to the switches but I hate to do that for nothing. I unplugged the two in the rear hatch with no results so I could assume it's one of the doors?
You might find it easier to check the wires going to the Central Security Module (CSM). When the doors are closed the switches provide ground. When the doors are open, the switches go open circuit. If you have a broken wire (pretty common between the driver's door and the cabin) it will give the indication of an ajar door.
At the CSM the rear liftgate switch is pin 12, white/violet. The liftgate and liftgate glass ajar switches are wired in series. Pin 1, yellow/black, is the left front door switch. Pin 2, gray/red, is the right front door switch. Pin 9, light green/yellow, is the driver's rear door switch, and finally pin 7, pink/light blue, is the passenger rear door switch.
Rod,
I can't find a broken wire and all the switches seem to be working. Where is the CSM located and what am I looking for at these wires should there be power or no power? Thanks.
I'm currently on business travel and away from my service manual resources. I'll need to take a look at the diagrams when I get back home this weekend.
i couldn't find my broken wire either. I finally stuck my finger in there and sure enough...the thick black wire was broken. It was literally at where the boot bends. I Cheated on the repair though, I managed to get the rubber boot to push off far enough that I could apply a push on connector...I was able to tape the old wire and new wire together, and then applied another adapter in the door, so there is some slack in the wire. Total cost of repair...$3.00, time to repair, 45 minutes....not having the door ajar light on, the puddle lights work, and full time lock on drivers door....Priceless!
