When you factor in the cost to plant, irrigate, harvest, and transport the corn to the plant that also raises the energy "cost".

It's still amazing that it's cheaper for a gallon of GAS that is shipped from the Middle East vs. a gallon of Milk.
PLUS the price of gas INCLUDES a hefty amount of Gov. tax.

Our vending machine @ work charges 0.50 for a 12oz can of Soda.
That's nearly $5 per GALLON. It's $1.29 for a 2-liter bottle= ~$2.50/gal.
Yet, we buy cans w/o thinking twice about the cost/oz.

So, if you really stop and really think about stuff we do everyday,
there are bigger issues to dwell on IMO.

There is an ethanol discussion thread in the V10 forum as well. One of the things I had brought up in there was that since the E10 blend is actually called gasohol and not gasoline, would gas stations be mislabeling their product? Wouldn't the Federal Trade Commission get on their case about it? Class action maybe?

It's like buying a bottle of whiskey. All of a sudden, the alcohol content is reduced and you need to drink more to get drunk.

ok. I think what is overlooked is that the "up to 10%" ethanol was done to replace the MBTF (?) which was polluting the ground water and is highly toxic (I want to say it's an oxigenator?)

So, this is different than the E-85 "ethanol" being sold as a replacement for Middle Eastern Oil vs. "grown right in the USA" at a much cheaper price. In SW Colorado, E-85 was sometimes way cheaper than standard unleaded, with granted the lower energy content.

Cheaper but you get less mileage with any added ethanol = not cheaper.

1 more thing I'm sick of hearing about egypt already. Why not grill Obama like they did President Bush on the gas prices? They went up .02C and the press fried Bush. Why does the Community Organizer in chief get a pass?

UMMMM........Ethanol (the 85% part) is very expensive to manufacture due to the high amount of energy needed to process it, lots and lots of energy. Guess how a lot of that energy is supplied..........OIL! So as oil prices go up so does the cost of the ethanol and of course the 15% gas content costs.

Good point. So its double stupid to keep forcing on us. I wish politicians would leave gas alone and jump on some other bandwagon to steal millions from......... I got it how about Global Cooling?

I can tell you that ethanol lost me 2mpg across the board. untill I figured it out I was pissed! I finally started running 93 in my X and the mileage and power came back. the only thing I can come up with is the higher octane is making up for the lost energy in the Ethanol formulated fuel.

Excursion Camper, I see that where somewhat neighbors. Where do you buy your gas? I went from 16-17 mpg to 12-14 since october! My truck runs perfect just fuel mileage went down the toilet.

I'm ready to sell the darn thing!!

Many like to blame the loss on "winter blend" gas which is different. I believe it has more oxygenators in it like butane ,natural gas etc. This "lightens the fumes to rise in the colder climates and helps them disperse. Mostly your mileage drops in the winter due to COLD air. Takes longer time to warm up the engine keeping it in open Loop untill it is above 140*F(kinda like a choke on a carb). Second the oils in the cold require more HP to get them moving. As does pushing through the colder air itself. That doesn't even take into affect the snow, slush, slower traffic do to bad weather. All in all your loss is typical of WINTER in any vehicle.
