Auto vs Manual trans options

Hey all, I'm building my first 1953 F100 truck and I need to make a trans decision. Background is stock 239 flathead bore out to 3-3/8 stock 3-3/4 stroke 3x2 offy intake, offy heads.....I have the stock 3 on the tree with overdrive trans. Intent is weekend driver, fun fun fun. does any one think I will have any issues with the stock trans? If I need to swap to an auto trans what are my options? If this is the wrong forum please let me know.

that depends on you that tranny should be just fine unless you like me who thinks a manual has no place in a truck.
i get allot of crap for that but the c4 i put in mine was my biggest expense on my truck.
drive her for a bit and see if ya like what ya got

Hmmm..Good running flathead. Three on the tree which no one under forty has ever seen before. An over drive. I'm 51 and I've never driven a vehicle with an over drive. Ok, let's review. 1. unique drive train that's unlike the one parked next to it at the cruise in. 2. good around town performance with the 3 speed, and an over drive for highway running. 3. it's already installed in the truck and paid for. IMHO, Keep It!

It is very unique and interesting. Just to stir the pot a little you could always put in a T-5 5 speed. They make kits to mate up just like they make kits to mate up the flat head to a C-4.

I have heard the stock stuff does not hold up well with a warmed over flatty...no experiance with that here but just throwin it out.

The T-5 swap is a no brainer. With an adapter plate, it's a great piece. The gearing is good, the shifter is in a good location, it just works. Personally, I would drive it until it breaks, THEN come up with a solution.
