Hey all, I'm building my truck and I need to make a trans decision. Background is stock 239 bore out to 3-3/8 stock 3-3/4 stroke 3x2 offy intake, offy heads.....I have the stock 3 on the tree with overdrive trans. Intent is weekend driver, fun fun fun. does any one think I will have any issues with the stock trans? If I need to swap to an auto trans what are my options?
Well, I believe I've seen transmission adapters for mating a Y Block to a flathead transmission when a Y is swapped to an earlier vehicle. If that is right, then yes, your transmission should hold up fine as the Y produces much more torque than the flathead.
RE auto's, a Google search of "Ford flathead transmission adapters" returns quite a few sites.
This really is a question which is better to ask on the flathead forum. I'm not trying to be mean. It's just that there are people there who have likely dealt with this on that forum and can answer the questions definitively.
