I've heard that blowing head gaskets on 6.9's aren't to uncommon. 6.9's have smaller head bolts, and it may happen while working it hard (like this thing always does) the head can slightly lift off the head, and blowing the gasket.
If I known this before doing the gaskets I would of studed the heads, even though i'm not planing on a turbo, it's still cheap insurance to make sure I never have to go through that again.
Well, I'm sure that you are correct about the sending unit because when I went out this morning the temp light came on and stayed on the minute I turned the key.
Now I just need to get the gauges installed. Found a brand new 3 gauge cluster still in the box in my shop.
Oh yes, it's still suppose to light up when you crank it, as a test to show the operator the light still works.
But it will no longer light up if there's actually a problem.
Or is yours stuck on?
Cause that's exactly how mine is setup, using the temp light switch. I've been told you can use either port, but I still wanted my dash gauge to work, so I had to use the light switch.
If the camper was here right now I'd go out to it to see exactly what I did, I'm pretty sure I just connected it to the port sensor. Cause I'm trying to think maybe of a T on it to make both gauge and light functional, but I don't at all remember doing that.
I'm just going to pull the light sensor and put the thermocouple in, forget about the light and run both the dash gauge and the real gauge.
Also going to put in a real oil pressure gauge, already have amp and voltage cause this used to be an ambulance so they had it decked out to monitor power.
Charges batteries fast with a 165 amp alternator.
Might take a shot at moving the wait to start light as well, its in a stupid spot.
