Trans question

Hello, newer member with a transmission question, tried searching the boards but no luck...
I have a '91 F250 2WD with a E40D tranny thats bad, will a E40D from a '97 2WD work? Found a pretty good deal on a rebuilt unit... Both are diesels

It should, but it depends on what engine the 97 had.

Both had the 7.3

Even though those 7.3's are totally different, I think the bolt pattern is the same.

I am not sure but i think it will work but you have to change the solonoide pack to the year of truck you have then it will work.

I was told my E4OD trans was bad. I replaced the wire harness plug to the silenoid on passenger side of trans. I bought it on Ebay for less than $40 works like new now. The plug wires going into the plug corrode with dirt, rocks, sand, and water. What makes you think your trans is bad? Would hate for you to spend more money than you need to.

Towed my boat home cple weeks ago and had MAJOR atf leak out of dust cover (kinda the drain/spout), I know the front seal is bad and probably the t/c. Had to limp home adding fluid every 10miles... It won't shift through the gears now and only sometimes pulls forward but in what feels like 3rd gear.
