Are there any common trim peices etc that are known to come loose and cause a rattle in our trucks? My truck has always rode fairly quiet/tight, recently with the rough roads & stiffer tires plus cold weather I have noticed alot of little rattles which are hard to narrow down sometimes. They drive me insane. So far I have noticed the rear RH suicide door was one culprit which I quietened by a couple wraps of tape around the striker, but I can hear more from possibly under the dash & rear of cab.
Also I swore that my box was coming lose, if I went over railroad tracks I could hear a hollow rattling noise that seemed to be coming from back there, I looked and all the mounts are fine & seem quite solid, but when an 05 similar to mine passed me on the street one day and I noticed his box shaking alot more than the average truck, then looked at my own in the sideview mirror and it appeared to be bouncing around more than I think it should. Anyone else notice this? I am kind of OCD about rattles & squeaks and cant sleep until I shut them up
Its most likely ice. Ice gets in between the cab and box and then makes a horrible noise. I hear it sometimes by the dash. As soon as the sun comes out it goes away. I usually scrape the snow and ice away from the rear window area and it keeps the rattle from starting. Also, make sure the rear doors are closed tightly or they will rattle.
the tape wont last long, my tail gate striker wore out but a cheap fix is some pvc plumbing cut to the right length. quick and easy, also super cheap. i made a dozen when i cut them. the worst rattle i had was from putting toys (dirt bikes and 4 wheelers) in the back and tightend them down too much i guess. the bed was bent toward the cab and the damn thing would tap the cap on my gravel road and finaly i grabbed it in the center and pulled and it was way to easy to bend back from the cab but the noise was gone.
I had a rattle somewhere in the bed that drove me nuts for years. Found it the other day. The fuel filler neck assembly had just enough play in it to move around on bumpy roads.
I have a rattle too and I can't tell if its exhause or what. It sounds like its coming from inside on drivers side towards windshield...only hear it when the truck is in overdrive and bogged down a little
I too have a pass side rattle, that I think is coming from the door area. Might have to try something on the strike bolt. Also thought about a thin weatherstrip to fatten up the existing one. Never a noise on driver side. Why one, and not the other? At first i thought it was the jack assembly bolted inside the panel. Removed it, but no help. Other than that, love the truck.

Hi. We have the same problem. We live in a cold climate and when we get a melt freeze weather system the rattling from near the back window drives us nuts. It sounds like a bunch of ice cubes being shook around inside a cooler. I go to the car wash and blast hot water between the box and the cab for 30 seconds and that solves it until the next weather system. Any ideas on how to permanently fix this?
I have looked and shook everthing and cannot find the source of random rattle/clunk behind the rear seat of a Supercab. It is random, sometimes clunk/rattle like crazy, bumps do bring it on but not always. Some days never hear a thing. I have the power rear window and leaving open or closed does not make a difference. It sometimes sounds like something is loose behind seat back and is swinging back and forth and sometimes it sounds like something is flapping. San Diego truck so rust or ice and mud not a issue. Cab vent maybe?
The noise sounds exactly the same as my problem, but I,m positive that ice rattling around back there is the cause. I live in Banff,Alberta,Canada and snow is day to day thing in these parts.Sorry wish I could help.
