6.2L fan issues?

I am wondering if any of you guys have noticed the fan running oddly on your 6.2L. When I start it, the fan whirls up and then shuts off, then whrils up agian and stays on for maybe half a minute and then shuts off for maybe a minute and the whirls up again etc....It has only been from -10F to 20 degrees F here in MI so I am wondering what is up with that. I have also been having some issues with the tranny running hotter than what I think it should. I did a trip on the e-way Tuesday for about 70 miles. MPG meter reset before I got on and I got 11.2 MPG running 70 MPH without cruise and the tranny got to 203 and stayed there--17 degrees F outside. Maybe these two things are related? Not sure what to think besides this sucks and it is going to really suck in the summer towing my 10K 5ver in 90 degree weather. Anyome else notice the fan thing when they start up and it is idleing?

How did you describe my truck so perfectly? Good, bad, or otherwise.....mine is the same on all accounts.

Haa haa, yeah same here. Goofy that it's running in sub-freezing temps at startup.

Your mileage is also related to the winter gas, kills my mpg's on this truck (haven't had non-winter blend yet but basing it off of others mpg's) and was even worse on my '00 V10.

Glad to see others have noticed this as well! I started my truck the other day and noticed the fan running right away... Since it was like 10 degrees out I was kind of confused! (more than normal!)

Same here too. I noticed that the fan has some electrical wires going to it even though it looks like a viscous type fan. anyone know what those wires are for?
