Made it from NC to Knoxville, TN the first day. Second day had to cut it short because me and my wife got a stomach virus from our son who had it a couple days before to stayed in Dickson, TN that night. Third day made it to Shawnee, OK. Fourth day to Albuquerque, NM. And yesterday from ABQ to Redlands, CA.
Hoping to make it to the Oregon border tomorrow evening.
We just missed that big storm. Ran into a little snow in NM but nothing bad. Strong headwinds in Arizona but didn't slow us down too much.
Truck is running great, got 2k pounds in the bed and the wife's Cobalt on a trailer behind us. Trans temps are staying below 150 the whole time, EGT's are managable, hit 1,300 a couple times for a couple seconds on the really steep hills but other than that no problem keeping them below 1,200.
Just kept it in the 40hp towing tune the whole trip.
My wife is now calling my OD button the "Noisy Button" because I kept having to drop down to 3rd on the hills and in the wind to keep EGT's down.
Yeah, it's cool flying by the "lesser" trucks and suv's towing trailers smaller than mine. lol
Sounds awesome kicking it out of OD and pulling hard at 2,500 rpm. Nice bark to the exhaust.
I'm really impressed with the lack of smoke in my tow tune with all this weight, I've only blown smoke 2-3 times when I really had to get on it.
Set a CEL for the HPOP for the first time on this trip. Only turns on if it lugs down a little. Never set one empty before, but I guess a car trailer and 2k pounds of cargo would do it.
Way to go Evan.. Those hills in NM along the corridor are a huge PIA! Last year in mine before I put in the PS, I had my 5.8, hauling a full load of screaming mares! 35mph was my best! So the fact you made it with ease, just awesome! You are almost there! Thanks for the updates!
noisy button, that's a good one. My wife has another way of expressing it, she puts in her ear plugs!! LOL Then when she gives me 'that look' I just say "the 2011's are out now, they are not as loud". What is the code exactly you are throwing? Maybe its just my warped sense of humor but I just love going by the new pickups on hills towing their big RV's!! Anyway, I'm glad all is safe and running smooth. When you get to the Siskiyou mountains on I5 on the CA, OR border think of us. Beautiful sunny day on the way up, fog as think as soup on the way down. I had my 5er pushing on me and I was doing all that I could to maintain 45mph or so. She wanted me to slow down, I didn't want to get rear ended. She screamed at me the whole way down, I wasn't having any fun. Needless to say, she will never go that way again. Safe journey!

glad you mist the storm man it droped 21in of snow on us man glad its going good man
Made it through the Siskiyou pass without issues, except for a friendly state trooper who had to remind me that max speed with a trailer in CA is 55mph. He caught me as I was cresting a hill at 67 mph, just trying to keep temps down and I guess it got away from me. Just got a warning though, a military ID works wonders...
In medford, OR till sunday morning visiting grandma/aunt/uncle. Then we'll be home in corvallis.
That rule in CA really sucks. I just can't believe that they are so unproductive in their approach to trying to gain dollars thru tourism. As you go north there's a little town of Winston south of Roseburg that my daughter worked at the Wildlife Safari raising Cheetah's. Now she's at the national zoo in Va. Good luck the rest of the way.
