That's what I was hoping for - I see salvage yards selling engines that state only good for 2001 -2004 - Also in the chilton manual it shows a different intake manifold for pre 2001 4.2 liter engines. (Don't know if that makes a difference or not)
ya then id measure ur intake, depth an width if it will fit in there you go!! If not guess u,ll have to find the 01 an up, but everything i read says 99-03 is a direct bolt in.
I put a 2000 V6 in to a 1997 F150. had to change the lower and upper intakes.and on the 1997 there is a sensor that screws in the block near the starter, the 2000 engine didnt use a sensor there. I put the sensor in there. the front of the engine is the same, timing cover, water pump, all that is the same. both engines were automatics, so no difference and the exhaust manifolds and O2 sensors are the same. and swap over the 1997 wiring harness over. otherwise the engine was the same.
