When you step hard on the gas, the transmission will allow the engine to rev up to about 2500 RPMs, and then it will hold 2500 RPMS until it shifts into second, and still hold it until 3rd. Once in third and the speed catches the RPMs it will allow the engine to rev the rest of the way up to redline.
