I've got a 96 F350on 38's and the power steering is going bad. I figured now would be a good time for an upgrade. I've read about the saginaw pump upgrade that involves using E350 parts and from what I can tell the mounting bracket and pump on my truck and a 95 E350 appear identical. Are they identical and already saginaws or do I need a different year pump and bracket for this upgrade?
I got my sag pump and bracket off a mid 80s box van with a 460. I see no reason a pump and bracket from another 351w in a van wouldnt work....especially if you find one off a similar year. You "may" have to make up new lines for the correct fittings but I would grab the lines off the van when you pull the pump/bracket.
Very easy swap and infinitely better than the whining plastic Ford boxes.
they used to sell a remaned saginaw pump that used the standard ford mount but it is hard to find because it was discontinued and the only company that was remanning them does 50/50 work. you may never have a problem with it, or it might whine like hell and spit fluid everywhere.
here's the part # Cardone 20-6244 PS pump. check all of your local parts stores as they may have a few left over in the stock room if you're lucky. if that doesn't pan out, i found a website that had some, but lost the address when my old computer died. it was something along the lines of autoparts warehouse.com or something like that.
I have one of thoes pumps on my 94, had one on my wheeler, but screwed with the pressure relief valve and blew the back of the pump up.... so I nabed the bracket off it and put a chevy pump on it with a home made pulley

Putting a chevy PSP may be the best idea ive heard so far... I have looked for the last year trying to get a reman saginaw and have had no luck. I'm in need of a new pump pretty bad and dont know what to do...
I like the idea of a direct bolt on but I'm not to wild about the spotty dependabilty your talking about. The pumps are next to impossible to find in the junk yards down here.

i don't know first hand. it's like that with most rebuilders either way though. johnny over at bay one might do a great job at rebuilding and joe over at bay two might just be some schmuck trying to get a paycheck, and like everything nowadays quality control has gone out the window so the consumer suffers.
between here, pirate, and fullsize bronco it's really seemed like a 50/50 split so you may be better off checking with one of the online national pull-a-parts that ships and just get a bracket and core to rebuild yourself.
might be your lucky day. a guy on fsb is selling the bracket and pulley for the swap that uses the readily available van saginaw pump. he just got an offer maybe you can get it still though. i might be able to broker the deal for you. here's a link, but i think you have to be a member to view it, and you have to have x amount of posts to post in the classified section. i thought ivan said he has a couple laying around, he just has to find them in his ridiculously messy shop. ask him, i'm pretty sure he said he has 2 or more.
