I solved the oil leak by reconnecting the ccv hose to the turbo intake. After the oil finished dripping, I saw some fuel on top of the intake. After a lot of searching, I found that fuel is leaking out of the dome on top of the fuel pump in the valley. It looks like I can unscrew it and replace it without pulling the turbo. Has anyone replaced one?
It is a black disc, attached to the top of the fuel pump. I can not see the words bosch on it. I thought it was the big bolt that holds the fuel tubes that go to the back of the head, but when I had the mirror back there, I saw a drip coming from the disc.
It sounds like a Cali model. If it is coming from the "disc" I would unscrew it and wrap some "pink" or fuel oil tape around the threads and spin it back on. The fuel pump is a PITA to change....but it can be done w/o taking off the turbo.
yes, we are talking about the same thing. I had to replace the fuel pipes going to the bakc of the head last year, pulled the turbo, it was a bitch! From what you are saying is the disc will unscrew without taking the fuel pump out? It is leaking from under the disc, not the threads where it screws into the pump, must be some type of weep hole on the underside of it.
I think you may find it leaking from the weep hole on the pump under the disc (passenger side weep hole). I would have replaced the pump when doing the fuel lines...but you can replace it now WITHOUT pulling the turbo....and that black disc just unscrews.
OK, I will take the disc off first, and and see what I can see. At least I know that I don't have to pull the turbo!!! Is there fuel pressure on the bottom side of the disc? What does it do?
I had it explained to me before...I forgot what it does. I know you can CAP/PLUG it up with the right size plug. I don't know what the pressure is....you may be able to hold it down w/your thumb....I don't know.
Please if you take out the disc, take a pic of the thread there and if you can measure it and what tipe of thread has (stright or NPT?) and post it here. I think there are cooper washer there too.
after looking at the disc on the truck, I thought that I would blow EVERYTHING off in the area. I think your middle name has to be Houdini to get that pump off without taking the turbo off! What I do know--It is on the rear part of the pump, not the hoses or the pump itself. I let it run for 1/2 hour and NO leaks. As far as I can see, it has to be on one side of the banjo nut or the disc. I will check it every so often and let the group know what I find. I see that there have been a lot of posts about this area, but none of the fixes is in this exact area.
