power steering box hits spring mount

I'm bolting in a '75 Saginaw ps box in my 66 2wd and the box hits the spring mount. Funny that most information that I find says that it will bolt right in. Anyway, I was wondering if this is common and would be best to make up a 1/4 inch spacer plate to move the box inward... or notch the spring mount.

It does bolt in, but RIGHT in? Well, I guess it's just a play on words. I bolted the exact same thing in after I took out the grinder and took off an ever-so-small amount from the power steering box and spring thing. Mostly just grinded off the casting seam and a little off the end. Doesn't take much. Sure, I can't get a .001 feeler gauge between the two, but so far, so good. Works perfect - used to steer like a Mack truck, now like a Caddy (relatively speaking).

I have found that on some 65 and 66 frames the later PS box does in fact hit the spring tower. But the odds are slim.

Are you sure it is a truck specific box and not a car box as the car box is very similar but the barrel is rotated a bit more to the outside?

Post the part number from the main body.

Thanks for your input. The number is D1TR-3550-BA and I was told that it was from a '75 F100 2wd. I went ahead and notched the spring mount and all seems good. With a little black paint after cutting... you can't even see it.

If the truck has the V8 whether it requires the power steering engine purches, they have a slight slant for clearance purposes. Perhaps more knowledgeable member can advise.
