Hey guys. I did search but no answer. Under my dash is a connector hanging down just above the brake pedal, it is a 4 wire going into a approximately 2-3 inch cylindrical connection, has a spring on both sides on the inside. Any ideas as to what this is? Thanks.
Thats not the clutch interlock switch is it? Cylindrical, but with a cut-out for the clutch push rod, so its really more like a c-shape? It has springs inside. Mine is black, and the wire connector is gray. Mine also only has 2 wires, but the connector has space for I think 6, I don't have cruise control, so maybe thats the other two wires?
I can't think of any other electrical connector that would have springs in it.
If its not connected to the clutch pedal, the truck won't start. The switch lets the starter run only when the clutch is pushed in (for obvious safety reasons). It also will turn the cruise off when you hit the pedal, which is also a good thing.
If you don't use the cruise control, yes it can be unplugged and bypassed. My switch is currently in the glove box with the wiring connector (wires broke off). It was bypassed before I bought the truck, but poorly. To bypass you need to connect the two wires in the center of the connector. I don't know where the cruise control wires enter the connector, so it might not be the two middle wires, if you catch what I mean. Someone else might know the wire colors to be certain.
WARNING! if you disconnect this switch, the truck will start in gear. This is dangerous and could cause injury, death, or worst of all, damage to the truck. So be mindful of this if you disconnect it.

Reason: added warning
Guess it's been bypassed then. Been that way for a while I'm assuming. Everything works as it should. Unless some one has a diagram of how it was reverse engineered, it will just be left alone. Thanks.
Clutch interlock so the engine will not start unless the clutch is depressed.
Also disengages the cruise contol when the clutch is depressed.
From memory, the clutch interlock is the two red/lt. blue wires, connected when the clutch is depressed.
The other pair, would have connection when the clutch was up, no connection when the clutch is down.
Can't remember those wire colors.
In the book,
Lt. green = stop light switch
red/lt. green = cruise control
red/lt. blue = ignition switch
red/lt. blue = starter relay
purple/yellow = starter relay
grey/yellow = E4OD PCM pin 30
