are there different c4 tranny's? I have a 77 150 with a c4 and pulled what I thought to be a c4 from a 80 model car. each has 11 pan bolts, removable bell housings, pumps and shafts appear to be the same. my bell housing bolts up differently though. mine bolts to the case, the one from the car bolts to the pump. only differnece I have noticed other than bell housing is that the dip stick tube on mine is in the pan, the tranny from the car has the dipstick in the housing. are there adapters that will make these interchange? any info would be great.
Are you sure the bell housing is the one you need? It should bolt right to your motor and in your truck. The tail shafts may be a different lenght and there is a difference in the 2wd and 4wd versions.
The pan fill and case fill bellhousings are different. Other than 6 cylinder, there should be 2 versions of pan fill, 1 for small block, the other was 351M. They would interchange on the transmission. The case fill small block has 2. 157 tooth and 164 tooth. The difference besides 7 teeth is the starter placement. (Flexplate is larger)
I have a 68/69 C4 that has the fill tube in the pan. The body of the trans mission is longer forward, so bell housing is shorter.I NEED A PAN/FILLER TUBE with Dip Stick. From what I can find is these were used in some mid to full size cars, Broncos and F-100 trucks from '69 into mid-70's. Said with a heavier output shaft and yoke with additional clutches. Code tag on mine is PEA M1.
