Front Hub Cap Assembly Loose

Front Hub Cap Assembly Loose
It's been a couple of months, but I had a mechanic repack the front wheel bearings on my 86 F-150 4x4. The other day I noticed some grease on the wheel and saw that the cap assembly was loose! I'm not sure what holds that on but all of the screws that hold the cap on are tight and you can still move the cap assembly in and out. What do I need to do to get it back tight? Am I going to need to repack the right front bearing again?

Being a little bit loose is normal sometimes. A new o-ring in the groove may help tighten it up. The grease coming out doesn't sound good though. He should not have greased the 4x4 hub assembly, only grease in the wheel bearings. It doesn't get that cold in SC, but if it does, the grease will get stiff and you can usually force the hub to lock, but it won't unlock if the spring can't push the sprag out because of the stiff grease.

Thanks Franklin. I was going off of how tight the other side was. It seems to be seated very firmly against the hub, so I'm going to pull it apart today to see what is going on.
