need help please

i broke the shifter and the shift collar in my wifes 03 explorer (auto) now i can not figure out how to get the shift collar out of the collum... can someone help me with this issue. thanks

Hi David, was just looking around to one of my old sites and I found your thread. Sorry to hear that you have been bit by the cheep ford part. The shifter was made with pot metal. Don't think you were that strong, just ford comming up with a better way of building things. You can go to rockauto and look at dorman parts for part #905104, this is a new and better part for your truck. For more info on the how 2's of thr repair job, you might look up, Stock 2002-2005 Explorers and look for the thread Gear shift brok off in my hand. Alot of info on how to repair this shifter is out ,just keep in mind you want to do the job the easyest and fastest way. With the Dorman part you will not need to take off the stearing wheel. I was able to replace mine with a differant part that did not have a C-clip to hold the shifter ring on. If you need more help and info give me a shout.
