I'll try this one more time hoping someone can step up I have a 1986 Ford F150 3 speed manual and the column/gear shifter collar broke. I removed the steering wheel but I need to detach the ignition device to get the ignition collar off to get o the column/gear shifter. So, will taking out the ignition/key cylinder disengage the connection? Any help will be appreciated. I'd like to keep the three on the tree.
You probably do need to take the tumbler assembly out. Some trucks had a little hole beneath the tumbler, and you take the key, turn it to run, then take a small punch and push up in the hole and pull out on the tumbler/key assembly.
Steering columns are one of the worst things to work on in a vehicle in my opinion.
