You can spend less that $99 a pair for some decient speakers that will fit the factory holes, but as someone pointed out in an earlier post, that Head unit puts out a dismal ammount of power. i know you want to keep it stock looking and dont want to sped a ton. Go to crutchfield.com- cant go wrong. The factory head unit just sucks in my opinion..........GOOD LUCK!
i have infinity door speakers a kenwood 500.2 and a jbl 12" in my truck. usually, when you put an aftermarket deck on the factory speakers, you end up with blown door speakers.....it really depends on the type of music you listen to and the particular sound you're looking for. just a generic idea, I'd advise a set of entry level rockford fosgates, kicker, or alpine for an aftermarket headunit. you could probably go as cheap as pioneer and get a good sound with the factory amp though
I will not be doing a subwoofer, but how satisfied were you with those speakers? could you tell a huge difference in sound quality?
A "huge" difference? Not really. A "difference"? Yes, for sure. The sound is more clear & balanced and bass is handeld better vs. the factory speakers. I'm still driving them with the factory head unit & the Kenwoods have like a 88 Sensitivity rating. Pioneer's have a little higher sensitivity rating, but I was told that they sound "tingy". My Ranger has the factory Pioneer Sound System and it sounds great; but nonethelesss, I went with Kenwood.

I'll try to get something posted within the week. I should add that this powered sub will not shake the truck and have passer-by's gawking ... but it will fill the interior with ample sound. It's good for folk who do not wish to mod the interior a-lot or go all-out, but want an improved (modern) sound. It's small enough to lay right in the bottom of the center console; some guys w/ 250's also mount it under the seat.
Im running A pioneer single din head unit, factory speakers, 2 10" Mtx in a thunderform, Soundstream 880.2 amp, and a 3.0farad cap, The head unit made a huge improvement and the subs give it a good kick. Would like to upgade speakers down the road, And try and stuff some better woofers into the thunderform, All in all Im happy with the set up, but there is always room for improvement!!!
if you must stay with the factory radio...i would go with some very sensitive speakers...with the rating over 92 and VERY low wattage handling....seeing as the factory radio has NO power...
I installed 4 Alpine 5x7's from Best buy. $99 a set, sounds great!
a bass tube with amp is next. Not going for the ghetto sound, just want more bass than the 5x7's can deliver.

I'm just saying i wouldn't get some 300 watt 4 way knowing that i'm going to keep the factory radio. I would get some cheap 2 way pioneers or sony's...stay away from no-name brands.
I too am thinking about adding some better sound to my truck. I have an 01 F250 CC and everything ive seen so far it leads me to believe that the biggest subs i could fit behind the rear seat are 10's, maybe a shallow 12. I have a buddy that give me a regular size kicker 12" sub. Can anyone say for certain whether it will fit in this truck or not? What size speakers are you guys using in similar year models?
So I started a thread because this one did not turn up in my initial search, however I'm at a crossroads as most of you are. 2 of my 4 factory speakers are blown, still running stock head unit and it is not very reliable at all, so that must be replaced. However I don't have cash for head unit yet... but i'd at least like to have 4 speakers again.
I know about _ much about car sound systems... I listen to metal and country, and just like it to sound decent at elevated levels. Sub would be ideal, however def not in the short term budget.
What size speakers are in our trucks? Seems everywhere I look I find something different from round 6's to 5x7 to 6x8 and 6x9.
The below link is what I usually listen to, and ironically toasted my stock speakers. If anyone knows a reasonably priced set of speakers that won't break or garble up the sound I'd appreciate the tips!
