speakers??
 

What aftermarket speakers do you guys use in your superdutys? I have a 99 and they are pretty easy to get to so I am thinking about replacing them with something that sounds a little better. Any suggestions? Prices? I am using the stock radio

as little as possible............ The speakers that I have in there now are okay, but I would not mind having some better quality. I guess tell me about the high priced ones and the cheaper ones.

Trucks are notorious for not being able to get good sound in them. The size of the speakers is what kills it for us. You'll either need to go cheap and learn to be happy or spend a quite a few 1000 and be happy. I myself put in 8 MBQuarts (with x-overs) in the cab (crew cab), massive amounts of sound insulation, a JLw7 12" sub into the rear custom handmade console along with 4 amplifiers pushing 3300 watts of power to them and am very satisfied as I built the system over time for SQ (Sound Quality) and not SP (Sound Performance).
I'm not saying you have to go all out like I did but a good place to start is by removing the interior and installing some sound insulation, when $ is there buy a decent set of speakers for just the front, then later do the back and maybe next year get a quality head unit, then put in the amplifiers (but be sure to not go cheap on the speakers in the beginning) and last, but not least do a sub or 2. It may take awhile but you'd eventually get there and once you start getting compliments and offers to have a write up done by Audiophile magazines you will be glad you took your time and did it right!

I replaced mine with Pioneer 6x8's with a Pioneer head unit and built a box for a pair of 10's with a 1000w pioneer amp to replace the jump seat in the front of the truck. It sounds nice and could be annoying for other people if I turned it up a lot.

I run Boston's 6x8's, Rockford 12 inch single sub, alpine amp and Pioneer Head unit (soon to be with HD and Sirus Sat Radio) and a back up camera wired to it.

Obviously, you can spend as much as you want, but it sounds like you're wanting to keep it simple. With that it mind...

Look for 6x8 or 5x7 speakers with a minimum sensitivity of at least 90db. They will sound better with the limited amount of power the factory stereo puts out. 92db or higher would be even better. Here's a set very reasonably priced Polks that would be just fine.

You can always expand later on.

my advice is if the factory speakers aren't blown...just replace the head unit with a cheap...name brand CD player or whatever you want...48x4 watts and higher and you will love the results, the factory radio has no power....i just replaced with s $90 pioneer cd player 52x4 watts and it is loud and clear all the way turned up...i even added a $50 flea market boss amp and an old pioneer 12 i had layin around and it sounds amazing...the factory 6x8s are pretty good speakers....IMO

I really like the look of the stock radio, so I do not want to change it. How many decibel are the stock speakers?

I have no idea.

For me, I just changed the factory speakers ... went with Kenwood Excelon KFC-X683C 6X8's

For a little more bass ... I added a Kenwood KSC-SW10 Powered Enclosed Subwoofer inside the center console. It fits nicely with no mods needed.

I will not be doing a subwoofer, but how satisfied were you with those speakers? could you tell a huge difference in sound quality?

My stock speakers were blown in the front, so I put in a set of 5x7 in the front doors, I think they were polk audio from best buy, paid like 75 or so for em.. they seem ok.

I will do more later, prob a sub and definately sound insulation... my PSD is loud...lol

do you have any pics with the sub being in the console?
