engine removal questions

hey guys tomorrow I am removing the 460 from a 78 f250 2wd my question is can the transmission be removed as well atached to the engine? any tips would be greatly apreciated thanks

There isn't as much room with a 460 to swing around, but I got mine out with the C6 still attached. I removed the front clip to do it though. Make sure your engine hoist will go high enough to clear the radiator if you choose not to dismantle the front end.

I did mine the same as 'maulmaul' just because i never had the head room and i wanted to do some other repairs.

Do trannies and engines generally come out easier all as one piece? I'm interested in this topic too because I need to get a 351W and an FMX out.

Better done all at once, or is seperate generally the same?

I find it easier to pull them seperate. Less mess.

it all depends. i pulled mine in one piece. but i also pulled the front clip to paint it. if you dont want to pull the front clip, i really doubt your gonna get it out without sep. them

ive pulled a few out of cars with the trans atached and found it easy but I did dismantle the front end on my truck theres nothing in the way now so it should slide out thanks for the replies

I'm considering pulling the front clip because everything needs to get painted, and I wouldn't mind doing a frame-off resto while I'm at it.

It'd be sweet to see all the lines and the frame to get a hold on what kind of condition everything is in with nothing on the frame but lugs and rubber.

Thanks for the advice, front clip is coming off.

Pull the front clip inner fenders and all Prep and paint it up nice. It will make your life a lot easier pulling the motor to pull the front clip.
