2 ques - water seperator and injectors on '86 6.9
the water seperator mounted at driver side rear of engine compartment - mine has an 'o ring' to pull (I suppose) - is this all that's needed to purge it clear? and is this done with engine running or off?
also are there sources of rebuilt injectors? I suppose you send originals in as cores?
as always any tips appreciated - Tom.

Engine off......
First off is yours still connected to the fuel line....... Those have a habit of staying open slightly after draining and causing hard starting concerns. If yours is still part of the fuel system and you wish to use it place a spigot that can be opened and closed on the hose. To drain water open the spigot and pull the ring, any water/fuel should come out.... close spigot and seat ring puller.
If yours is not connected then you may have a retro fit fuel filter with a drain on it... Wix and others have them. If you do not find a drain in either area ensure you get one on the filter. Drain it every month, if water is found do a draining at monthly intervals. Not having a drain will pass water to the IP and cause internal damage/failure.

Pensacola Fuel Injection | Worlds #1 Diesel Rebuilder sells injectors pretty cheap with no core hassle. Id recommend them as there havent been much complaints ive heard about. Best luck and ill look for a few others, but pcola diesel will be the cheapest.

thanks for all replys so far.
greywnd - it's more than 'a couple of bucks' diff vs new injectors
I checked my seperator and ran a piece of soft copper wire up it to try to clean any potential blockage (maybe due to mud dabbers there's lots of 'em around here) and it came out quite dirty. when I pulled the ring and held it 'open' no drainage was seen although I pulled the fuel filter and noticeable amount of water was in it - I drained the filter into a clear plastic container just to check this very thing. I have some diesel experience on contractors eqpt and generators and know the importance of clean fuel. I'm wondering my separator is kaput somehow?
this engine has great compression and does not use any oil at all. I'm hopeing to get the bugs out of it for another 100K. it's a Jasper rebuild in my '86.
thanks again for all tips. Tom
