I got a 1996 4x4 460 with a 4 inch lift and 315/75/16 tires on it. for some reason whenever i go over about 75 mph the whole truck starts shaking real bad like there is mud inside the rim throwing it off balance. but i already checked the rims, had tires balanced and replaced my rear tires which were bald but i replaced them with tires that only have about 10% tread. and also does it around 40 mph but real gentle and not for very long. dont know wats wrong, any help appreciated.
mine to! 35-40 it slowly bucks and 72-75 feels like the trucks falling apart. ive rotated tires rebalanced the tires check ball joints and it all checks out. cant get it fixed.
im gonna replace the tierod ends soon, ive been told that will fix it. MOOG i bielive?
help us out people! haha
could be your shocks are bad and the front tires are cupped seeing as how thw rear tire replacement didnt fix the problem. i had a simmilar issue after rotating my tires and the cupplng of the tires was the issue.
well your in luck guys i am in brakes , suspension and steering alignment etc for schoool.. and it sounds like a few factors and not just one thing..
First any smooth ride starts out with the tires ... make sure all your tires have Equal tire tread on them... Second , If your steering wheel has more then 1-3 inchs of free play ... then its a steering component, you might want to check all your linkage gear box , joints etc also your bearings could be going out,
there is camber and caster and toe. now toe will not effect a vechical as much as the other two,, if your caster and camber are off even a little bit... that will cause pulling from side to side, hoping , Dog tracking etc .
Before you take your truck to the shop ... try just rotating your tires front to back or in a X pattern , insure that the best tires are on the front ..
If your still hoping , pulling etc .. you not only need new tires u might need to replace steeering linkage parts, and or alignment .... i hope this helps ...
^^^ rancho 9000 shocks new and didnt help even adjusted all the way up.. newer nitto terra graplers equal tread no camber wear just normal equal wear. rotated in an x pattern didnt help.
drag link joint was loose. tightnd up but didnt help. haha bent wheel?
Could be bent wheel(s) or the rear axel is not parrallel with from axel. Have a 4-wheel thrust alignment done. I had a problem like this years ago cause by the tires not being molded properly. Had to have them shaved to be true in the round. Only one out of 4 had the problem. Just a thought.
My front tires have 75% trees and rear might blow out soon. That y they are on the rear. And I already had my ball joints replaced an wert part of front end looked at by a mechanic. However my steering is loose and always pulls right. And I'm getting new tires as soon as I can afford them.
how do you check the tires? haha. mine look round and ive had tread seperate before and i felt it constantly. felt like a lump of tar stuck on my tire.
thrust allignment eh? sounds pricy haha
can i do a quik ccheck with some 90s? and a tape messure?
yea u are correct block ur front tires jack up the rear 4-5 inches off the ground put in first gear and just let the motor idle check the tires for roundness and driveshaft also if all looks good run ur speed up and see if ur vibe comes in
Do a Google search for "death wobble"
Sounds like what you've got.
ive had the death wobble in a wrangler. its nothing like that terrifying event. hahaha
this comes on whenever not just when a bump is hit or in a turn.
seat of the pants. idk if im thread jacking since we seem to share the exact problem, just adding more to it if so leme know. thanks guys
if its more like a vibration it might be drive shaft or u-joint. I had a vibration issue at about 40 and 70 it was bad needle bearings on the u-joint connecting to the rear diff
