351M build

Hi,

I am interested in building my 351M a little and wanted to know if these parts would be good candidates. My main goal is to add a little performance to it and to get rid of the smog stuff and advance the timing.

My parts I have chosen are

Summit Racing SUM-G6505 timing set
Summit Racing SUM-K5200 Cam and Lifter Kit
Summit Racing SUM-M08600VS 600 cfm Carb
Weiand 8010 Action Plus Intake

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

You will need to get a new compatible valve spring and retainer set for that cam arrangement.Look at this kit from Summit,P/N is CCA-K32-221-3.The timing set you have picked out is no better than stock. These are very mild treatments for this engine, and nothing truly wakes them up like a much needed higher compression ratio. And as mark says, headers!!

I plan on putting headers on it. The ones I had in mind are the SUM-G9034, which are made by Flowtech. I can probably step those up to Hedman's or Hooker's for better performance if need be.

I chose the Summit headers because it already comes with the reducer to reduce the 3" collector down to the 2.5" pipe.

So far, I have priced out the specific components from the Comp Cams K32-221-3 Kit. I know it costs about $378 for the kit, but wanted to break it down into specifics, as funds are limited.

I downloaded the Comp Cams online catalog and found out the individual part numbers and priced them out at Summit Racing, being that there is a Summit Racing around the corner from my house.

Here are the Part Numbers and prices for each component.

Cam & Lifter Kit P/N CL32-221-37 $199.95
Timing Set P/N CCA-3221 $ 32.95
Valve Springs P/N 940-16 $ 82.95
Valve Spring Retainers P/N 743-16 $ 51.95
Valve Locks P/N 601-16 $ 5.95
Valve Seals P/N 502-16 $ 9.95
---------
Total $383.70

I know this is a little more than the kit, which also includes the assembly lubricant. In regards to the assembly lubricant, which lubricant would be good?

Also, Would it be necessary to change the stock rocker arms to the Comp Cams P/N 1411-16 rocker arms?

I want to try and do everything to the engine the first time so I don't have to do it later on down the road. One other thing to point out is that the engine only has about 60K original miles on it.

Thanks,

Chris

As far as the Comp 1411 rockers, you'll have to have the heads milled to accept these rockers. I've got a new set of the 1411 rockers I've never used if your interested in a good buy.
