2001 Expedition - no start sometimes

Having a problem with the wifes expedition. Sometimes it wont start. Turns over fine but doesnt start. Let it sit awhile, then it starts right up.
Check engine light does not come on at any time and the thing runs fine when it starts. She has noticed that when it doesnt start, when turning the key and the engine cranking over, the tach remains at 0.
Any ideas? I dont know if the dealer can do anything about it if it is starting if I bring it in (or can they?) And I dont want to just start throwing things at it hoping it fixes it.
About the only other thing I can think of is the truck does sit outside at night now, when it used to be in the garage at night and the weather has turned cold up here in Indiana past few weeks.
Thanks for any info.

There could be a few things going on. The first thing I would make sure of is that you have fuel pressure. That way you know your pump is working and properly. If you have the PATS key system, it could be that too. Search for that topic and you will find some posts about it. Start with the simple things first and rule them out and go from there. Could be electrical. Bad relay, corrosion, bad PCM. Many things possible.

I started simple - replaced the fuel pump relay in the power box. See what happens over the next few days.

That could be the ASD relay failing to power the ECM.

Auto Shut Down relay, and it's in the under hood power box.

Changed the fuel pump relay, started it 5 or 6 times without a problem. Wife trys tries to start it 4 hours later, no start 4 or 5 times then it fired right up. She drives it a few places without a problem. Last stop she tried to start it and it just turned over. She gets mad, starts banging on the steering wheel, turned the key again and it started.
I read somewhere else about a wire grounding out in the steering column, so we will be looking into there later today.

Just had the same problem. New fuel filter. Will check pressure if there is a 'next time'. Thanks for the other options.

I am having the same problem. Changed fuel pump, filter, and relay, still did not help. Did you figure out what was wrong?

Never did figure it out but it has stopped doing it (it starts everytime) No idea except it has been into the shop for a transmission rebuild a few months ago.

If an Explorer has this problem, it's often a bad contact/damage of the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Maybe check that to...
