First Ford 12V System??
This is exactly why I brought the subject up. As i said earlier, I'm pretty sure the 55 F-600 my father wrecked for the engine ect was a 12V system. When he put that 272 into the 54 M-350 he also changed the truck over to 12V. If the 12V starter, generator ect. wasn't on the 272 when he swapped I have no idea where he would have gotten these items. Unfortunately when I acquired this M-350 the wiring harness and cluster were out of it and I had to gather up all the parts but there were three harnesses and clusters and I don't know which one was in the truck. None of these have voltage reducers and I don't see anything to indicate if gauges are 12V or 6V. None of the clusters have the 2 spd. switch aether so I can't tell that way. It might be easier to buy voltage reducers and hope the cluster I use is 6V

Note, the only gauges you cannot use a voltage reducer for are sending unit gauges. You need to replace the sending unit...example fuel sending unit. If your truck is past the cutoff for when they started building all 12V systems, you should have no issues. If not, perhaps a few voltage reducers (drops) could be installed, replace a few sending units...and voila. I am not 100% sure on this though, as I simply roll with no gauges. I installed a cheapy aftermarket 3-pod cluster to monitor the oil, temp and voltage, and cross my fingers on the gas! I still need to find a speedo gear so I can see how fast I may be going as well!!!
I looked in the battery section (basic part numbers 19653/4) in the 1948/56 truck catalog. 12V batteries listed for 1956, not for previous years.
How are y'all gonna run all those pre 1956 12V starters, generators and etc if Ford didn't offer a 12V battery until 1956?
Hi - Today I noticed that my 48-56 Ford Truck Parts and Acc. book was printed in 1964, don't know if that has a bearing on this or not, it lists -Page 659 - 52/55, 60amp./12V, voltage regulator P# B5C 10505-A
generator P# FAE 10002-A
Page 685 - 52/56 (various models) 6&8 cyl.-12V, starter, P# B6A 11002-A
52/53 (T@up) 239 c.i. 12V, starter, P# * FAH 11002-A
I don't understand this, I'm not a parts man, never was one never will be.
What the heck is going on here??
Bye for now.
