I have a 1999 f350 7.3 and my drivers side fuel injector harness is vibrating unplugged like every two or three months. It comes unplugged on the inside of the valve cover of course and Its getting annoying having to take it apart just to push the connectors togethor and then put it back togethor. Anyone have any ideas on whether or not I need to replace the valve cover gasket where it plugs in or the fuel injector harness itself?
I thought about it but I dont know where I would zip tie it to. I also have to be careful since its inside the valve cover I dont want anything coming off and getting inside the engine.
You know we have a 99 - 03 7.3 diesel section located a little further down the main forum listing. You should stop in there and check it out.
You're options are to buy an updated harness from Ford or International. Buy and install the retaining clips they sell to help keep the plug together, or make your own shim and do it yourself. The key will be to make sure you don't have any broken tabs on the connector under the valve cover before deciding which way to proceed.
Also while you're under there. You should really consider re-torquing your lower injector hold down bolts and the rocker arm pedestal bolts.
Go to the 7.3 forum and search for the 50cent mod. It is a ground down quarter to hold the clips in place, or the ford dealer sells retaining clips that they added to their updated harnesses in '02
