my truck is a 97 f250 hd 5.8 with e40d. problems are abs light on, no speedo, harsh upshifts, and blinking od light. also cannot start truck without jumping out the solenoid. i cleaned the vss or abs (witch ever is plugged into the top of the rear diff.) problems list listed above are still proceeding. but shorty after driving the truck, speedo came back, shifted fine, and i could even start with the key. then this morning all the problems are back. so my question is, does the nss also control the vss/ abs on the diff? causing the tranny problems and not sending power from the remote wire to solenoid? or maybe it is the ignition switch witch controls everything? had previous problems were truck would not shut off, or dash lights would come on by themselves. any ideas? TIA
well when i lights in the dash came on, it was like the the was in the ON position, witch is why i was thinking ignition switch, just not sure if it would cause the other problems also.
put in new ignition switch, nothing. i did get it to start 2 times from the key, turned it on and left it to start for about 5 seconds, then it started. but other than those 2 times the most i get out of the signal wire to coil (red w/blue strip) is 3 volts(at the switch) with the switch held on start. over 12 volts going into switch from red w/ green strip wire. also speedo was still all over the place with abs light on (well on and off as the speedo bounces) unpluges the abs computer from behind the glove box and still the same results. is the neutral safety switch causing all this? or the vss/abs sencer in the rear diff?
I take it that it was the ign switch under the dash that you replaced? If so did you try adjusting its position? Did you verify that the rod from the key switch is operating the ign switch properly?
Does it make any difference if you try starting the truck with the shifter in the Neutral position?
yea it was the switch under the dash, rod and key worked fine. i even tried starting it by moving the rod sticking out of the new switch wile it was unbolted, still nothing. tried starting it neutral, still no go. just went out there a few minutes ago moved the switch to start and it fired right up... speedo was working and it drove fine...but when i shut the truck off, all the dash lights and fuel pump would still come on on there own again. i wiggle the power control box under the hood and its like i can make the lights and pump come on on demand...i dont get it, faulty relay?
Well you seem to have, very methodically, gone through the obvious things. The wiggle test is always a good idea and you seem to have found a fault. I thing you need to look for wires with broken/burnt insulation or loose/corroded/burnt plugd/pins.
Unfortunately I can`t pinpoint it any better.
Good luck.
