Here's a picture of what the wire to the plug of the CPS looks like. Someone had taped it before, but didn't do a very good job. I don't know why it is spliced. Perhaps someone sabotaged it? Or do these wires commonly split at this location? I wrapped it a half dozen times with electric tape. Plugged it backed, wiggled it etc. No problems.
Appears we're getting snow tomorrow. Looks like I'll be testing it again! *fingerscrossed*
Glad you found it, guess you have a spare idm now. Not a bad thing to have anyway, I've got one in my truck. Hope it stays workin for you. That is a weird looking split.
got my idm in and it didnt fix the problem! wts light flashes something in fuse block under the dash and under the hood at fuse block clicks with the wts light flashes. [its not the gpr!] its a softer relay click. new idm now im out $170 and its still not fixed! ready to sell grrrrrrr! any ideas what else to try what would cause a internal control kam error! is there another computer im missing?
i have tried unplugging the icp no change the sensor is 3 months old the cps is also 3 months old. i tested the alternator it was good its a year old. batteries are both 4 months old and are commercial truck and farm batts. truck cranks like normal. exhaust chuggs out white/grey raw fuel while cranking. new idm still same problem. disconnected gpr and light still flashes. i jumped gpr with jumper cable from batt waited 20-30secs. [its cold out] plus truck plugged in for few hours. it started loped or chugged for few secs then dies. tps is also new. i unplugged tranny harness trying to rule out anything else before dumping anymore parts in to her. tranny tc was locking at stop signs and lights. i found water in tranny connector back when i was plowing. i unplugged it and stopped tc locking up. since i have fixed that problem now i have this one. anyone have a pcm go bad? i have heard about idm but not pcm. just dont know what to try next. i def think its electrical/electronic issue
After my simple issue/fix. I say check your harnesses. Start with the CPS. Someone had my issue before me, and their fix was pretty shotty. Maybe a previous owner of your truck did something similar?
Try some 3M scotchkote to seal up that split in your wiring. It makes a nice waterproof seal on wiring. It is essentially a liquid electrical tape "paint". 3M Electrical 43906 Electrical Coating 4 fl oz PK10

That KAM error is merely the batteries have been drained down or even disconnected long enough to set the code for the computer to indicate.Nothing more than that for this code.THinking a clean out of the ipr would be a wise approach. With the correct tool it can be removed ,cleaned and reinstalled in about an hour.A little research on here for the ipr will provide much insight.Good luck,am going through a similiar scenario.
Just fyi, I purchase a cam sensor plug and pig tails from Ford and spliced that in, instead of using the 3M goodness. Seems to be good, but if it starts acting up, I'll look into cleaning the IPR.
