Hey guys, I hope someone can point me in the right direction here. I have an 05 F350 and the speedometer is stuck at 50 mph. When I drive it it goes up but when I stop it goes back to 50 give or take 5 mph. It started this a couple of weeks ago when the temps ducked down into the 20's, as the temps started to rise it settled back to zero. 2 days ago on my way to work it did it again.. outside temp was 24 deg. Its been warming up into the low 40's but its not going back down. I have a gps that shows my speed but I want to get this figured out. Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks!
This is not going to be cheap. The speedo is electronic and is part of the cluster electronics. It could be a simple mechanical problem with the speedo, but I would be afraid to take it apart myself. The dealer has a scan tool that can talk to the cluster and do some programming on it, and it might have a test procedure for it. But of course you know that's not going to be cheap.
Just to make sure, go up to the correct year forum for your truck and do a search for "stuck speedo". You could even do a search on google for "Ford truck stuck speedo", just to make sure this is not a common problem.
