Thanks for the info I hadn't thought about the airbags until you said that. I certainly will be correcting the issue very soon. Probably with my tax return.
So from what I have found the only choice "inexpensive" I have is to go with the Ready Lift 4inch block which will eliminate the stacked blocks and still give me the bump stop for the air bag. Does any one else have any suggestions or opinions?
You're fine to drive around like that, it's actually assembled properly. I just don't like the air bag idea. Another way to do it is to remove the aftermarket block and put in an add-a-leaf. You may need to get a spacer for the air bag, I know Air Lift makes spacers to work with their bags.
yeah I am aware of that but I am planning on towing a 27' heavy TT and the last time I did with out airbags the truck rode on the bump stops more than not. Do you prefer Add-a-leafs to blocks? will they achieve the same lift? I am only looking for the 2 inches. Advantages vs disadvantages. I realize new springs will be the best option given that these are the original and I plan on using a TT frequently, but they are not in the budget right now.
I forgot to mention i did not have a good expirence with add-a-leafs on an explorer I owned previously. But I may not have choosen the corrcet option for what I wanted.
If your going to tow mostly then add a lifts are a decent options since they do increase the load capacity of the springs, but when not towing they make the springs stiffer and therefor the ride as well.
Take one bolt loose from a front and rear shock. Measure them compressed and extended.
You will then be able to order the correct set from a 4x4 parts dealer
Any Idea if the blocks can be reversed and if so would that be safer with the air bags? I have also looked at a 2 inch lift block that combines the factory block, then I would use the air bag spacer. I realize this would be the best choice but money is tight and if I could get by with just reversing the blocks then down the road probably replace the springs alltogether.
