I am finishing my final semester in college, and recently acquired a job in Tucson,AZ. I will be headed there in May from Montana. I would love to bring my baby (talking about my 79 ford here as the wife has to come), but I want to know how strict AZ is on emissions and whatnot. All of the emissions equipment is long ago gone from my pickup, and it has no cats with true duals. Will I be able to get it licensed down there or will I be fighting a major uphill battle?
Thanks!
They have no emissions there inspections if you can call them that are take you truck in they give you the slip and you go register it every two years now your license in renewed every i think 30 years.
79 f150 will need to have the cat & smog pump & misc crap. Or you can register it with classic insurance & have no emissions at all. With the 79 that would be your best bet.
the guy with the 74 F250 will have no problems most likely only part of emissions on it should be an egr valve & with a big stock looking aircleaner to hide the back of the intake should be ok. if you can get it to run good enough to pass the tail pipe standards.

PIMA county ( that's where Tucson is ) does have emissions and you would have to pass it , thing are getting tougher all the time down here i am in casa grande .
lots of people live outside of Tucson and commute !
From what I recall, if you are in Pima County (it's a big county) you'll need to get emissions done. I lived outside the Tucson city limits but still had to get my 67 Bronco tested when I lived there.
But I'm wondering if it's just going to be the sniffer...not equipment check. I don't recall anyone looking at any equipment at all.
I live in tucson and my 77 F100 has to pass emissions each year. I believe 1976 and newer need to have cats and the entire works for emissions or they will fail you. I know for me they check for a cat with the mirror under my truck and it seems like depending on who is working they pop the hood and check for a smog pump, egr valve and to make sure your vacuum lines look correct. Either way you have to pass the tail pipe test at idle not at load and gas cap has to be ok. Hope this helps...
ya i used to hate that pheonix would run my car on the rolling dyno, they almost blew it up a couple times emission testing it on that darn thing! poor 88 lemans, it eventually threw a rod.. i never pushed it as hard as they did.

well they have to similate it being under a load. there are some dumba**es that dont know when to shift though. that pisses me off. when i rebuilt my oldsmobile i had the timing off by almost 20deg. surprisingly enough it ran great! when put on the dyno it didnt make enough power to make it through their test. when i realized what i had done it passed with flying colors.
