Hello, I've searched and searched and can't find a good answer to what I'm looking for. Is there a huge or noticeable sound difference between a Flowmaster 50 SUV muffler and Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow?
This would be going on a stock 2000 V10 with only the ebay Y-pipe and 3.5" SS tip as mods. Future plans include ebay headers, but not right now.
From everything I read, the 50 series would give me the noise level I'm looking for. I'm leaning towards the 50 Delta Flow because I can get it made in Stainless, the 50 SUV does not.
I know I need a 3" in/3" out, does a center in/out fit better than offset?
I'd highly recommend the SUV or HD over the Delta Flow.(HD is louder than SUV) The Delta Flow has a 4" thick case where as the two others I mentioned have a 5" thick case. Obviously the larger case gives you more capacity which is better for tow vehicles. I have an 50 SUV muffler yet that I took off my dads truck when I put the FM70BB2 on for him. It was a good muffler he just wanted something a little quieter. The steel flowmasters will last longer if you keep them painted, though the FM40 on my sisters explorer is right at the 10 year old mark.
As for the inlet/outlet offset. The FM mufflers that come with the Flowmaster catbacks (I've installed two already) come with a dual opposite offset inlet and outlet. The inlet is offset to one side of center and the outlet is offset to the other side.(Not in line with each other) Those were larger FM70 mufflers which are longer but the thickness and width is the same as the 50 SUV and HD.
The 50BB is what I used and I am very pleased. The biggest of the bunch - which means the lowest drone and least raspy. Absolutely necessary for me as I tow a lot and hate obnoxious noises.
Center inlet and offset outlet line up very well on the BB50.

Thanks for the info, it's very helpful. I only question the center inlet and offset outlet, my factory muffler inlet is on the bottom, and the outlet is on the top. Wouldn't a offset in/offset out work better? Just asking the question, I really need to lay under the truck and take some measurements.
Not with the 50BB. It is actually larger ("wider", or "taller" when installed the same way as stocker) than stock muffler....
And as I recall, I used a short straight section of pipe to replace the slightly doglegged section in front of muffler.
That combination lined up very, very well.
I see a lot of you guys going with the Flowmaster mufflers and was wondering if anyone has tried a Magnaflow? I am going to build a full new stainless exhaust from eBay headers all the way back. I want to keep it all stainless thats why I was leaning towards the Magnaflow. I already found a high flow stainless steel cat. Just wondering if anyone has one (Magnaflow) and how they sound? Not looking for super loud just better performance, mainly doing better than 8 mpgs.

I think Krewat has a SS magnaflow on his truck, check out the sound here:
If you tow heavy, make sure the element in the aftermarket converter is large enough to withstand the load.
The "universal" ones can end up being short lived in heavy usage. Take a look at your stock cat to see how big you need to go to be reliable under heavy usage. If you need to go aftermarket and tow heavy, I would suggest using two in parallel.
BTW, these stockers will flow a LOT. I have not seen any OBJECTIVE dyno results showing any aftermarket cats will produce more power than a stocker in decent condition.
Sandman, thanks for showing me the video. That is the muffler I am planning on running and will be ordering after seeing the video.
mwsF250, I know for a fact that the cheapo cat I got off eBay is no where near as big as the stock one. The element itself is 4" in diameter and maybe 6" long. The box says it's rated for up to a 5.9L and 6000GVW. I more or less thought it just would be less effective and didn't consider the fact it may clog up. Might just have to reuse the stock one. Heck I only paid $60 for the aftermarket one.
