I have a 04 FX4 5.4 and just had a flowmaster delta flow 40 single in dual out installed. It sounds good, but not as loud as I had hoped. Was wondering if anyone is running the step up, the Flowmaster Super 40 and what they think.
The super 40 should be louder, however it resonates in the cab. If you want it really loud then cut out the rear cats. Check out www.flowmastermufflers.com
The other option would have been to use the FM Delta force single chamber muffler. Unlike either of the 40 series mufflers, (2 chamber), the single chamber is half the size, resulting in real loud. Still sounds like an Fm. The muffler is available in offset, as well as center configurations. If loud is what you are looking for, this is the ticket.
I have had my Super 40 true dual system on for a little over a week now -- I love it -- didnt really like it at first it really wasnt that loud -- but now its perfect -- VERY deep -- SOUND GREAT at start up -- If you really want I can get a sound clip for you somehow... let me know..
I should add this -- I dont like the rev of a ford -- I dont think it gives the true sound of it... I love it when I am actually going though -- but I can do a sound clip of me revving and see what you think...
I have a similar set up to the OP with an original 40 and I think it sounds decent. I do not find it too loud, nor too quiet. In my opinio, it resonates very little.
I was in the same boat.....I had the Flow 40s on my 4.6 and it wasnt that loud at all. It rumbled pretty good, but after a while, i was tired of having Dodges and Chevys scream by me and be MUCH louder and DEEPER. So what I did was I got rid of my 40s and went to straight pipes and dumped it over the axle. Now it sounds like a truck.
