So, i just put a new steering wheel on my 79 f100 2wd. The auto shifter is kinda close to the wheel, so im thinkin about installing a new hurst pro-matic floor shifter. Anyone here do this or have one in their truck? Would it be awkwardly low?
I don't have that shifter but I did put in a B&M Z-gate floor shifter in mine. I used four lug nuts as spacers under it to raise it just a little. It's a fine height to me.
I seen a chevy once that he had built up a console inbetween the bucket seats for his shifter and several other acessories... looked prety good, well except that it was a chevy, and an automatic...
Not sure about the Hurst the OP mentioned, but my B&M is cable and it came with the cable and all the brackets to work with a variety of transmissions.
so what did you guys do about where the old shifter mounted on the steering colum?
Thats something I'd like to know too. I had 3 on the tree, and the shift collar broke, so I installed a Hurst floor shifter...but the steering column looks awful!
1) It's a cable shifter
2) Make sure to get the long handle shifter, they make two lengths
3) You can buy a smooth shift collar for just this purpose, seen them on E-Bay before, just can't find one at the moment.
