After I stop the engine I can hear this buzzing sound coming from right around where the coil is. It seems to be getting worse/louder. It used to sound like a small amount of pressurized air was being released through a small wet opening. Now it really seems to sound like electrical arching.
If my coil was going bad, would it make a distinct noise? I am trying to get this video to work to upload of it.
I can almost guarantee it is the EVR solenoid letting off vacuum. My last '93 F150 Lightning and my current '92 F350 make the same noise. I even went so far as to replace the EVR, it still did the same thing.
Here is a photo for reference:
That photo shows the EVR mounted with the filter down. Mine was also in that orientation.
Once I rotated the EVR like this:
That annoying noise at shutdown was significantly reduced.
Something else you may not know is that the top comes off. I think the reason some of them fail is from moisture getting in them. If I remember right there is a spring inside it. I replaced mine about 5 years ago. The old one had a little bit of rust or crud inside it.
Mine was mounted with the cap/logo on the bottom. Obviously from the first photo I posted there are others out there as well.
I also found out after the fact the cap could be removed to check/clean the filter. Bill posted on another EVR related thread the filter material can deteriorate so cleaning may not be possible if the filter is already fubared.
