E4OD overdrive light again

Last week my od light started blinking and the speedo was bouncing a little anywhere above 55mph. I replaced the speed sensor in the rear end and the light went away as well as the bouncing and the shifting was back to normal. Got on the interstate this morning and it came back. When i changed the sensor i did not see any metal shavings in the end of it as if the bearing in the rear end were to be going out. I checked the electrical connections and they were all tight and clean. any other ideas out there. i really hope i do not need a new tranny.

the light came back, the bouncing speedo came back as well as the hard shifts from 1-2 and 2-3 came back. From what i understand and have read i was not in limp mode. My truck would still use all gears and cruise down the interstate and normal rpm's. Maybe i am wrong but i was told that when the truck goes into limp mode it will not go above 45mph, or if you drive it at highway speeds you will overheat your tranny.

when the light flashes on and off,she won't lock up the TC nor go into OD i don't think.i just had this problem myself and that's what mine did.
you could have gotten a bad VSS right out of the box.it does happen.
made in Mexico or China today it seems lol.
the wires need to remain dry as well.any moisture that is allowed up into around the clip and it will do the same thing.look for any nicks in the wires.follow them back as far as you can inspecting them closely.
take the clip back off the VSS and inspect it for moisture.

so last night i unhooked the batteries pulled the sending unit back out of the rear end cleaned the electrical connections and put back together. This morning no more light until i got back on the interstate this evening on my way home from work. I stopped into orielys because i knew one guy there had the same truck as me and knew they had a computer to scan the codes. Turns out this guy just had the same problem lately and it turned out to be the cruise contol sensor. The po of my truck put in a new steering colum that was out of a bronco and never got the cruise hooked back up. All the codes we pulled lead right to the cruise not working. Now i am in the process of disasembling the colum to try and hook this back up.. Luckily for me the original colum was in the back seat and all extra parts where in a bag with it. Now i have a rear end question. I decided i would change some fluids since i have no idea when it was done last or what kind of oil is in it. I cracked open the rear end and drained it and the fluid was full of bubbles. Bubbles where all over the gears and everywhere once the fluid was drained. I have never seen this what does this mean.. Water???

yeah, but your experiencing a jumping speedo.he likely was not was he, with a bad cruise circuit?
interesting.im not sure what water would do to the actual sensor pickup in the diff.
it sure is no good for gears anyway.looking forward to your results.

yes his speedo was bouncing and still is according to him. It is a very light bounce, only about 1-2 mph at 65 on both our trucks. All the wires in the colum are hooked up and look good. Is there some other reason that the cruise would not work from a diesel truck colum to a bronco colum. Would i be better to hit the junk yard and try to find another colum from the same year truck with same tranny. doubt this helps but the horn does not work either with this setup. is there a relay or anything for the cruise i was unable to find anything in my book.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the steering colum and cruise control. I found a couple wires that have been spliced together and i am thinking that they might be backwards.

I am at a complete loss. I can not get this light to go away. I talk to a tranny shop and they said that it could be clutches slipping but it shifts so smooth and has never ever slipped that i could feel so i am ruling this out. I took back the vss that i got and they gave me a new one, still no help. I did some more reading but still confused on the tach sensor. Can the tach sensor cause these problems. I checked all wires going to it and everything looks great. What else could be causing this light????

Yes the Tach is working but seems high? 60mph=1900-2000 rpm. 4.10 gears with 235-85-16 tires. I knew my rpms would be higher with 4.10's but not sure how much
