On my new dead truck, (which will be coming to life soon!) I only have the ignition key. How do I go about getting a key made. Is there a number somewhere that a locksmith needs? It's a 1987 F-150

When new, vehicles came with two sets of keys, and with metal rings that had the key codes marked on them. Look in the glovebox, they might be there.
The ignition key code begins with FA (as does the door lock cylinders-if applicable). The door cylinder key code (if applicable) and the glove box code begins with FB.
Some Ford trucks had a separate key for the ignition, another for the doors. Some Ford trucks used the same key for the doors and ignition, a separate key for the glovebox, and...
On the newer trucks, one key fits all...including the glove box, console and tailgate.

I did not know that, maybe that explains why my '76 ign key wont fit the doors. My 3 previous dentsides all had one key for both ign and doors.

Does the ignition key have a square head, while the door cylinder keys have a round head?
If so, you have 1978/79 door lock cylinders in your 76, or you have a 1978/79 (you didn't specify the year, I got 1976 from your profile). Ford made this change in 1978.
Prior years, one could buy a door & ignition lock set keyed alike.
1978/79, the ignition and door lock cylinders were only sold individually, since the doors used different keys than the ignition.
If both keys have square heads, then a PO changed either the ignition, or door lock cylinders, didn't have the replacement(s) keyed alike.
Square headed keys: All it takes is a trip to a locksmith to have the internal tumblers changed, then all keys will be keyed alike.
Yes, its a '76 and I dont have a door key at all apparently. Yet. I thought the seperate round door key didnt come in until '80, when they put the ign. on the column (yeck, hated it). Would have bet my two '79s had one square key for all but its been 25 years ago.....
