haha. That's why I like the camper so much. It's got a bathroom! I'm a coffeeholic and can't go 50 miles sometimes without a pit stop.
I have been asking around about DOT laws and finaly called an officer. To the best of his knowledge I'll be legal because of the farm tags. I can carry whatever I want pretty much up to 38000 pounds. For farm use of course. yeah. I know several of my neighbors have 1000 gallon tanks on wheels that they haul to the distributor and fill up. I hate those things. Front turn axles on a trailer are scary.
I may just put air tanks in there though. I got a couple perfect candidates for that project. great idea and I can sure use it on the beach. I hate airing down then having to drive 30 miles to the nearest free air compressor. I just refuse to pay for air. And those little POS emergency compressors suck on big tires. I have a little one on the truck for air bags but it'll burn out too doing tires.
RR, let me guess! When the time comes you tap your wife on the shoulder and she reaches over and grabs the steering wheel. Then you stick your rear up against the windshield and crawl through the rear window (one that opens of course) through into the pickup camper. Her wife has a steady hand so you can get the job done without misshap and crawl back and grab the steering wheel. All that is done on cruise!! LOL How close was I??
As far as the pumps I researched the 12v air pumps and came up with a pretty good one called VIAIR. That little baby will pump up my G rated tires on my 5er to 100psi. Hard working little guy!!
My wife won't even think about driving.. If I had a sliding rear window in the truck though I might try that. It beats hanging it out the window!
Something else I was thinking for the trailer is some sort of drive for it. It's go the same gears. Old Army 6x6 trucks had a PTO flange on the rear axle just for this. That could come in handy on the beach. Or just maybe I could use that back end to make my truck a 6 foot longer 6x6. That would be really cool!!!!
I like the overall idea of your trailer, but I think I'd rather just have a hose and pump and fill my truck tanks up that way. I know I like to stop every so often and at least you won't need to drive till you find #2, or deal with a busy truck stop.
My neighbor has a cheapo HF 12v pump with a garden hose that moves fuel like you wouldn't believe. I bet it would fill one of the truck tanks in 2 or 3 minutes. We use it all the time with a cordless drill battery, but you could rig up a trailer battery and maybe an alternator on the pinion to keep it charged.
Lots of ideas and options.
Also really like the idea of water and air tanks.
The VIAIR compressors are really good quality and do a great job to keep your tanks topped off.
I have a simple electric fuel pump I could do that with. That was my first idea then I got to thinking. That's dangerous I know.
My ultimate goal for this is to have it carry everything I can't carry when the truck camper is loaded but not get in the way or impede my 4 wheeling ability when off road.
