Driveline Vibration

OK fellas, tell me if the harmonic balancer going bad would make my 351w vibrate through the drivetrain. I can feel it alot, around 2200 rpm in 4th gear. I feel it in the stick and on the clutch pedal the most. It`s a pretty tight vibe. I just would like some input before I go out and buy one. They cost over $100. Thanks. I changed the u-joints, so that`s not it. I`m stumped.

I once had a 360 truck engine almost unfastened and ready to pull because of vibration until I found one fan blade missing. You vibration could be a number of things. Unhook all the engine accessories and try it to see if an alternator, power steering pump, water pump, etc. may be the problem. Try running your truck where it vibrates the most and then coast in neutral to see if the vibration goes away. Your 40" tires are BIG, did you have them spun balanced? Have you checked your tires for tread seperation or any bulge? Have you lost a weight off your driveshalf? Have you added a new exhaust system which may be too close to the frame somewhere and vibrating against it underload? Put your truck on jackstands, and have someone run it in gear while you listen for possible axle bearing noises. There are probably a few more checks you can perform to narrow down your search but at 3:00 AM in the morning I can't think of them

Actually I have 33" tires on my truck now. I never felt it when I had my 40`s on. I have suspected maybe my driveshaft is unbalanced. I`ll try some of those things you suggested. Thanks

You can use a lrg. hose clamp on your driveshaft to experiment with the balancing, before spending any money.

Driveshaft and tires should be eliminated as suspect before assuming its anything else. These are the most obvious culprits.
Good luck!

I did try putting it in nuetral while under speed and the vibration continued. I reckon that rules out the HB. Looks more like driveshaft or something. I`ll try the hose clamp thing and see how that helps. The front end shop says my bushings are shot on my leaf springs. I think I`ll change those and my bushings on the TTB and see what happens!! Oh yeah I`ve already moved my tires around and it didn`t help. Thanks! If you think of anything else let me know. Thanks again!!
