What year is your Explorer and which engine does it have? When is the last time the engine has had a tune up (spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, etc.)? Have you checked for pending diagnostic codes? Did this just start happening after the weather got cold? Have you checked for vacuum leaks?
it is a 1994 has 239,000 miles on it i put plugs in it but i have not changed the fuel filter yet i can't get the lines to disconect the people don't know what kind of disconect tool to use
Does the 1994 have an Idle Air Control (IAC)? This is a common problem with the second gen engines, and I cannot recall if the first gen had them or not.
The IAC gets carbon build up in it and will often times not open, causing a low or rough idle.
i am not sure also could u tell me what size wrench i need to get the egr valve tube losen up so i can take it off and clean the valve and the tube and intake holes. where would the iac be located at
Go to Google images and type in "Ford Explorer IAC". You'll get a few hundred images. It should be located near the throttle body. It is a metal cylinder attached to a flange. I could not find a great image to put on here for you, sorry.
There is an explorer forum, not on FTE, that has a pile of how to's on this. You'll end up coming across some of them in your search.
I used to belong to that other forum when I owned my '99 XLT V8.
