Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it. The Ford dealer here in Hattiesburg, Ms. ran the engine until the problem ocurred. From the invoice: truck died while running, ran EEC test, found open IPR (injection pressure regulator) circuit. Replaced IPR, test drove 20 miles ran good and did not die. The mechanic told me that my cps was replaced on the recall, and "I've been working on these diesels for six years and I've never seen a problem with the cps". They tell me that a loss of fuel pressure will cause the computer to shut down the engine. Oh well $717.00 later, we are on our way again tomorrow and hoping for the best. Thanks again to everyone for you help. Jack
Well you tell your mecanic I've been owning one for 12 years and had one fail and had it towed, and another fail and I caught it myself thanks to FTE. Loss of fuel pressure will not cause the PCM to shut down the truck either. Your truck will shut down, but because it's not got fuel, not because the computer tells it to. The IPR is a high pressure oil related item, not fuel. But, all that being said, it well could have been the IPR and hope it was. Sorry it cost you about 5 times as much as it should have.
Thanks for your input zx, I definitely respect your knowledge and experience, it does make me worry about tomorrow on the road but guess I'll hope for the best. Any more problems, I'll keep you posted. Thanks again, Jack
We'll be here, and If you can, you should always carry a spare CPS, might not be the case this time, but chances are, you will have one fail sometime. They do fail and they fail often.
