My '84 has the Leaf springs of what seems like belongs to an F-150 of the same year. My Father's '86 has thicker springs and a overload spring? Curls up off the main leaf springs. I want to know if that is possible to switch over to my truck and what is involved with doing so?
Yes they can be swapped out. If you don't have the overlaod stops on your frame you would need those as well. It no different than swapping out bad springs for new ones.
Can I just take the overload stops off the old truck? Its got them. What all is involved with taking those leafs off and putting the ones from the '86 to the '84
just jacking up the rear end and undoing bolts. while its out, replace the bushings for sure. It is very important haha, if you are in there, you gotta do it. I did a 1999 F350 SD spring upgrade a long while back and man what a difference. The ride height went up about an inch and when i load my horse bedding pellets into it(one ton) it only lowers it an inch. Doesnt even come close to the overload spring.

So when i take off the springs on the '86, Should I remove the '84 springs then the '86? Then put the '84 on the 86 and the 86 on the 84. lol wow that is confusing to say and think about.
yeah if you want, that way the trucks stay in operation. Your call though. Which ever one you want the heavy duty springs on, put them on that truck and the lesser springs on the other truck. yeah it is confusing to say out loud haha.
new rear bushing usually are not required, however new u-bolts are as they cannot be replaced.so torch them off if you can,is the easiest way.you'll need longer U-bolts and center bolts.so measure everything up before you have them made.

Additionally, try to get the fattest bolts possible - IIRC 9/16" is what the factory gave us, but 5/8" will also fit, as that is what I put on my truck when beefing up the rear spring packs.
